A&W’s Gluten-Free menu is a little underwhelming. There is almost nothing on their menu that can suit the person looking for a solid gluten-free meal. The one upside to this menu is that they have a fairly robust set of dessert options that can be considered to be truly gluten-free. The only concern is that their menu is in no way gluten-free and they don’t officially offer a gluten-free option, meaning you are always in danger of experiencing complications from cross-contamination.

Popular Gluten Free Items at A&W
The most popular items at A&W pretty much fall into their sweets & treats category and a few of their sauces. The only problem with that is that there’s nothing that you can use that sauce on that comes off their menu, unless you have a strange obsession with honey mustard shakes and sundaes. So when you’re looking for a good dessert, you might consider stopping by A&W. Otherwise, you’re pretty much out of luck. On the plus side, their floats are a thing worth waiting for.

This one found its way onto the favorite list by being one of the few places you can find a truly tasty Watermelon slushie. For almost any other slushee we’d find our way to the nearest 7-11, but for a watermelon slushie, there is no other place to go. Order it in any of their drink sizes.

A classic offering from their dessert menu the hot fudge sundae is free from any gluten-containing ingredients, though as we mentioned previously cross-contamination can be an issue. This is a great place to stop and get a delicious sundae if you ate somewhere else, and we encourage you to do so. Their sundaes are not a thing to be missed.

Orange Float
If there is one thing that A&W is known for it’s the high quality of its floats. Given that it takes its name (or gave it to?) A&W root beer and their root beer floats, it’s no surprise that everything you get of this nature is delicious. This combination of their orange soda and vanilla ice cream creates a fantastic treat.

While all their shakes are delicious and gluten-free, there’s a favorite of ours that we’d like to trot out, and that’s the strawberry shake. Rich and creamy and inundated with the delightful flavor of strawberries you can’t go wrong when you order one of these amazing shakes. A&W is one of those restaurants that just isn’t great for those looking to go gluten-free. However you also need to consider that they have a fairly notable gluten-free dessert menu, which is something sorely missing at other locations that require on pocket pies and deep-fried goodies. If you’re looking for dinner you’re going to want to take a pass, but if you’re looking for a great place to stop and get dessert this is going to be your favorite stop. A&W is a fairly ubiquitous location so you’re not going to have to look far to find one.
