Popular Menu Items
Copeland’s boasts a full menu of creole-inspired dishes, appetizers, and desserts that celebrate the cuisine culture of New Orleans and the bayou. Copeland’s uses classic ingredients such as cayenne pepper, garlic, basil, dill, and paprika to create a menu that is both authentic and new.
Starting with an appetizer is a must a Copeland’s. Weather you try their take on fried oysters topped with melted brie, creamed spinach, and bacon served on crostinis or their Hot Crab Claws of Louisiana blue crab sautéed in olive oil and garlic, you will definitely be starting your meal off right. They also offer seafood stuffed mushrooms, crawfish bread with spinach and artichoke, and even fried chicken wings.
From there, you can really set your sights on some great creole classics. Blackened chicken, crawfish fettuccine, shrimp and Tasso, and red beans and rice are all featured entrees that are sure to make you feel as if you’re dining in the bayou on a sultry, summer night.
It should be noted that menu items can change for different locations, but here are some of Copeland’s more popular choices.
Crab Stuffed Beignets
When you think of New Orleans food, you should think of beignets: deep fried pastry that is traditionally served piping hot. And while many people may think of breakfast or dessert when it comes to beignets, Copeland’s adds tempura battered crab to theirs for a delicious appetizer.
Crawfish Étouffée
Étouffée is a classic Louisiana dish that is filled with flavor, featuring seafood. Copeland’s uses a dark roux to create a sauce with crawfish, garlic, and green onions smothered over rice. If that doesn’t scream creole, then nothing else will!
Cajun Gumbo Ya Ya
If your looking for a hearty soup, then gumbo is what you want. One of Copeland’s signature dishes since they first opened, the gumbo is made from a classic cajun roux to create a soup that is filled with shrimp and crawfish. Served in either a cup or a bowl, you can try it as an appetizer or go all-in as a meal.
Blackened BBQ Chicken Melt
For this sandwich served with a side of french fries, Copeland’s takes blackened chicken and smothers it with a BBQ glaze before topping it with mushrooms, bacon, cheese, tomato, honey mustard, and crispy onion strings.
Copeland’s History
Al Copeland opened the first restaurant in 1983 in his family’s hometown of New Orleans. His goal was — and still is — to serve authentic Louisiana cuisine with great service.
After expanding in the mid-1990s, there are now locations across many states in the southeast and Texas. Along with Copeland’s, Al Copeland has also opened several other restaurants, cheesecake bistros, and has created his own line of seasonings.
