Hooters History
The founding six members of Hooters, Inc. include Ed Droste, Gill DiGiannantonio, Lynn D. Steward, Billy Ranieri, Ken Wimmer and Dennis Johnson. The incorporation date was April 1, 1983 making a play on April fool’s day. The original location was in a run-down night club purchased at a deep discount in Clearwater, Florida. It opened in 1983.
The original “Hooters 6” sold their restaurant to Hugh Connerty in 1984, later to be bought out by Robert H. Brooks and other investors from Atlanta, Georgia. Brooks remained chair with majority stock in the company until his death in 2006 when ownership passed to his son Coby and daughter Boni Belle, later to be sold to Chanticleer Holdings.
As of 2016, there are over 430 locations across the country.
