Ponderosa’s History
The founders of Ponderosa, Norm Wiese, Dan Lasater and Charles Kleptz, opened the doors to the first Ponderosa Steakhouse in 1965 in Kokomo, Indiana.
Initial expansion of the chain focused on locations in Canada, but expansion shifted to the United States in the mid 1980’s.
The Ponderosa and Bonanza Steakhouse chains merged in 1997 when they were purchased by Metromedia Family Steakhouses.
In 2009, the company reopened after filing bankruptcy as Homestyle Dining LLC. As of 2016 there are 88 locations of Ponderosa Steakhouse in the United States.
