The Original BBQ Chicken Pizza
This is the dish that arguably put CPK on the map. It is a surprisingly delicious fusion of two American food favorites: pizza and BBQ chicken. Orchard Sangria
This gourmet cocktail is a customer favorite for those seeking a refreshing adult beverage with their meal. Orange and cranberry juices are blended with Monin Stone Fruit, Elderflower and white wine in this new twist on the classic sangria. $8.99.
California Pizza Kitchen’s History
Partners Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax, both former federal prosecutors, opened the first California Pizza Kitchen in 1985 in Beverly Hills, California. Early expansion focused on Southern California and by 1992 there were 26 locations in that region.
The chain was bought by PepsiCo in 1992, and a rapid expansion followed that was not very successful. This was followed by a series of corporate buyouts until 2011 when the chain was bought by Golden Gate Capital. As of 2014 there are California Pizza Kitchens operating in 11 nations and over 250 locations.
Fun Fact: The famous BBQ chicken pizza was developed for CPK by Chef Ed LaDou who was once a pizza chef at Spago, owned by Chef Wolfgang Puck.
