Popular Menu Items
Soft serve sundaes, Blizzards in any number of combinations, and novelties like the Buster Bar® have long been favorites for loyal DQ customers. Some folks just come for a plain cone, which best showcases the smooth and scrumptious vanilla soft serve.
DQ also serves up lunch and dinner meals that are hot, fresh and quickly prepared. The Snack Melts menu offers a variety of smaller portions at bargain prices if you are saving room for dessert. Try the Chicken Bacon BBQ wrap with or without a side of hot, fresh French fries.
DQ also has hard scoop ice cream in a variety of tempting flavors. Don’t forget about the frozen cakes available in a variety of styles for that special occasion. Fruit Smoothies and Julius Originals are particularly quenching on a hot day.
Here are a few customer favorites from the menu:
Chicken Bacon Ranch
This sandwich features a tender grilled chicken breast atop a ciabatta roll with Swiss cheese, bacon, tomato, lettuce and finished with ranch dressing. Have it with fries and a drink for $6.69.
Mushroom Swiss Grillburger®
This burger starts with a ¼ pound, all beef patty and is topped with Swiss cheese and savory mushrooms in a tasty sauce. It is finished with mayo on a toasted bun for $3.99.
Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard®
The flavors of chocolate and caramel blend with pecans in this frozen twist on a classic candy. Get a 12 ounce small size for just $3.99.
Banana Split
This is a classic old-timey favorite that never goes out of style. It starts with three mounds of that delicious vanilla soft serve between two half slices of fresh banana. Then it is topped with strawberry, pineapple and chocolate syrup. Don’t forget the whipped topping! $4.99.
Dairy Queen’s History
In 1940, Sherb Noble opened the first Dairy Queen in Joliet, Illinois. The recipe for the famous soft serve ice cream was developed two years earlier by John Fremont and Bradley McCullough, a father and son team in Green River, Illinois. After WWII, Dairy Queen used a franchise model and went from 100 locations in 1947 to 2,600 by 1955.
The famous advertising slogan “We treat you right” was introduced in 1980. In 1985, the Blizzard was introduced and over 175 million of this frozen treat sold in the first year. In the early 2000s, DQ began to introduce hot food and the first DQ Grill & Chill restaurants were opened. In 2014, DQ had over 4,800 locations across the United States.
Fun fact: The curl on the top of soft serve cones is actually trademarked by Dairy Queen. Employees sometimes call it “the Q.”
