Popular Menu Items
One of the unique features of Granite City is that you can find many dishes on the menu that feature the craft beers on tap used to infuse the food with the complex flavors of well-made beer. Foodies will appreciate creative dishes like The Northern Lager Fish & Chips, The Bennie Mac & Cheese and other great beer inspired creations. Many other dishes are made to pair well with the craft beers that are brewed on site.
If you are looking for some lighter fare, you can find it on the salad section of the menu. A few items in each section may also fit the bill.
For comfort food with a sophisticated flavor profile, Granite City won’t let you down. Their burgers have received numerous awards and been featured on television programs as well.
Here are some top picks to try:
Pretzels with Cheese Sauce
These soft pretzel sticks are baked in house and paired with a silky warm cheese sauce made with The Norther Lager beer. We recommend this upscale bar food for a great finger ready side dish alongside a sampling of the various brews on offer.
Roasted Prime Rib Sandwich
A great hearty lunch choice is this meaty sandwich, a modern take on the famous French Dip. Slow cooked prime-rib is sliced thin and served on a crunchy Italian baguette with provolone cheese and a creamy horseradish mayo. It comes with au jus for dipping and a pile of natural cut fries or fresh and hot, house-made kettle chips.
Maple Pepper Bacon Burger
Few dishes go better with micro-brews than a well-made burger. There is a large selection of gourmet burgers on the menu at Granite City, but don’t miss on this gem. Slightly sweet and spicy maple pepper bacon joins creamy Havarti cheese, whole grain mustard aioli, spicy arugula, and slices of tomato and red onion. It is a filling lunch or dinner alongside the house made Kettle chips.
Broad Axe Stout-Braised Beef Short Ribs
If you have a hearty appetite for strong flavors, consider these short ribs which are slow cooked in a delicious house made sauce made from one of the craft beers on tap at Granite City. It comes with a generous portion of horseradish mashed potatoes and freshly steamed broccolini.
Mahi Taco Trio
Those looking for lighter fare will appreciate this seafood dish featuring Mahi Mahi paired with the southwest flavors of cilantro, Colby-Jack cheese, zesty cilantro-lime slaw and a corn and black bean salsa. It is finished with a chipotle ranch dressing, giving it just the right bite to be a perfect match for cold tall Prairie Vixen.
Granite City History
The first location of Granite City opened in 1999 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The concept was to provide microbrews that were brewed on site in an upscale American pub atmosphere accompanied with great food designed to pair well with the signature beers.
The critical reviews of the restaurant have been overwhelmingly positive. They have been named Best Martini, Best Burger, and of course, Best Beer among other prestigious awards.
One of the secrets to Granite City’s success is the patented brewing process which allows the brewing to start at a central brewery but finish the fermentation process on site at each location. This allows for the selection of craft beers that are freshly brewed, often in a small brewery, visible to the public on site.
