Popular Menu Items
Pita bread is a soft flatbread usually baked from wheat flour that has been used in Mediterranean cuisine for thousands of years. Pita Pit follows this tradition by offering sandwiches made from this wonderful bread, a healthy alternative to other types.
Pita Pit takes fresh meats and veggies and prepares them on the grill before wrapping a warm, pillowy pita around them to create a tasty, healthy sandwich. You can choose from one of their own creations, or you can customize one for yourself to suit your tastes. And if for some reason you don’t want the bread, you can have anything made “fork style,” which is served in a bowl.
Just because they only serve pitas doesn’t mean that you can’t get hundreds of different sandwiches. They offer 12 toppings, four types of cheeses, and 17 styles. Just choose your base ingredient – meats and veggies – and then pile on whatever else you want.
Here are a few options you can choose from the next time you’re in the mood for a pita:
Chicken Souvlaki
Souvlaki is a Greek dish that contains small bites of meats and vegetables. The Pita Pit version uses Mediterranean-seasoned chicken and builds a base with spinach, tomatoes, onions, black olives, feta, and comes with tzatziki sauce.
Gyro
The classic Greek pita sandwich that you’re probably already familiar with, you can’t go wrong with this choice. It’s got Mediterranean-seasoned beef, romaine lettuce, black olives, tomatoes, and cucumbers, also served with tzatziki sauce.
Falafel Pita
Falafel is a deep-fried patty made of ground chickpeas and it’s a perfect choice if you want to go vegetarian-style. This creation comes with falafel and all of the veggie fixings you want. For an interesting change, try it with Ancho Chipotle sauce for a southwest kick.
Awakin’ With Bacon
Pita Pit offers some delicious breakfast choices, but the bacon pita has to be a favorite first thing in the morning. It comes with bacon, eggs, onions, peppers, hashbrowns, and cheddar cheese, all snuggled in that warm pita bread.
Pita Pit’s History
Nelson Lang and John Sotiriadis founded Pita Pit in Kingston, Ontario (Canada) in 1995. They soon discovered that their food was celebrated by the local college students, who could get a fast, satisfying meal late into the night. They opened the first location in the United States in 1997.
Today, there are hundreds of Pita Pit locations worldwide.
